Educational Opportunities in Seattle Area

Announcing some great educational opportunities in the Seattle Area for the month of April and May!

April 12 Burning Records – Events, Response, and Mitigation
Presenters: Steve Edwards, National Archives and Records Administration; Barbara Benson, University of Washington; and Jennifer Winkler, City of Seattle. Disaster mitigation and response is the key to getting your business up and going again after a disaster. This program will present two case studies in disaster response and helpful (and easily implemented) tips to mitigating the effects of a disaster. Come learn from actual experiences and get new ideas for disaster preparedness and response.

April 22 ARMA/ AIIM Seminar – Life Cycle for Success
A two track, combined seminar presented by Bellevue/Eastside, Puget Sound, and Greater Seattle Chapters of ARMA, International—The Association for Information and Management Professionals—and—AIIM Northwest—Association for Information and Image Management. Joan Feldmen, Computer Forensics, as the lunch-time speaker presenting Tales from the Crypt.
The Basic track will be presented by Barbara Benson, University of Washington and Jennifer Winkler, City of Seattle presenting Starting from Scratch: Identifying and Developing the Basics of a Records Retention Program. In addition, the Advance Technology track has two presenters Art Bellis, OmniRIM Solutions presenting Putting the Cart Before the Horse--Why You Should Be Thinking RM Before ECM. Also, Adam Jansen, Secretary of State Office presenting Mission Critical: Preserving Electronic Records.

May 19 and 20 Understanding Archives: An Introduction to Principles and Practices
This two day training session is presented by Society of American Archivists and co-sponsored by Seattle Area Archivists and will be located at the Seattle-NARA facility on Sand Point Way. This workshop will provide an overview of basic archival functions, including appraisal and accessioning, arrangement and description, preservation, and reference.
Cost and Registration: Early bird (on or before 4/19/2005): SAA Member – $285; Nonmember – $320
Regular (after 4/19/2005): SAA Member – $360; Nonmember – $395
