“RM and its Role Responding to Public Records, Discovery & Subpoenas”

Program: Compliance with requests for information is important not only in governmental settings, but is also crucial to managing risk in a corporate environment. Policy and procedure for the collection, review and release of records is a necessity. Efficiently responding to these requests can be a challenge without proper Records Management. This is particularly true when it comes to electronic records. Our speakers will discuss the important role records management plays in this arena

Speakers: Barbara Benson, Director of Records Management Services, University of Washington since 1992. She earned a Graduate degree in History/Archival and Records Management from New York University. She has worked as either Archivist or Records Manager for such diverse organizations as Chemical Bank; Trinity Church; New York City Department of Records and Info Services; Seton Hall University and the Archdiocese of Newark; New York State Archives and Records Administration.

Eliza Saunders, Director of Public Records and Open Public Meetings at the University of Washington since 1998. She received her Bachelor’s degree in American History from University of California at Santa Barbara and her Master of Science in Public Relations from Boston University. Ms. Saunders worked for a number of years in the Mutual Fund industry however the thrust of her career has been in academia. Prior to joining the U of W she worked in student affairs; first for the Registrar at Boston University and later as the Administrator for Admissions at Harvard Medical School. Ms. Saunders is considered an expert on access to university records and has spoken to both the International Media Law Conference and the Meeting of International Commissioners of Access to Information at the invitation of the U.S. Department of State.
