Greater Seattle Chapter President's Digest

Dear member,

The new 2009-2010 ARMA year will be starting in two weeks!! The Greater
Seattle board is energized to bring you engaging topics and programs at
a very low cost. My pitch for these meetings are--cheaper than your
local coffee shop. The board is committed to provide you all year long
low cost meetings to ensure you are receiving Records and Information
Management education. So, this year don't expect fancy dinners at
hotels, but breakfast and brown bags around downtown Seattle and
throughout our area. Dean Koga and Paul White are working furious
locating great speakers and great topics. I hope to send out a list of
the programs in the next few weeks.

Our next meeting will be on September 3, at Stoel Rives, 600 University
St., Suite 3600 in downtown Seattle. Our speakers will be Greg Trosset
and Patty Holmquist, who will share with the Greater Seattle Chapter
some of the successes and failures they've encountered in applying
technology to achieve an effective RIM Program in the last four years at
King County. To find out more details the meeting please go the Greater
Seattle Website.

I hope you plan on attending!

Dear Colleague,

My name is Danelle Roath and I am a graduate student at Western
Washington University in the Archives and Records Management program
under the direction of Dr. Randall Jimerson.

As part of my master's thesis I am conducting a survey to determine how
people such as you have, will be or are implementing electronic records
systems, which include but are not limited to: electronic records
management systems (ERMS); electronic document management systems
(EDMS); electronic content management systems (ECMS) or e-mail archiving
systems.

The ultimate goal of this survey is to investigate current practices and
consequently to analyze the data to determine best practices for
implementing a sustainable electronic records management system.

The survey will only take approximately 10-15 minutes and I would be
grateful if you took the few minutes to fill this out for me. The survey
will close Friday, August 28.

ShopSavvy - Barcode Scanning Software for your Wireless

ShopSavvy is a new tool available for cell phones (currently available for the Google phone through T-Mobile) that can read barcodes and provide you with information about a product. You use the camera's built in camera to scan the barcode of an item. The free software will then search for related information about the product.

This technology could be adapted for Records Management in the very near future. Who knows, perhaps one day users and Records professionals can use their own mobile devices to manage records of an organization!!!!
